What Is the SEAI Windows and Doors Grant?
The SEAI Windows and Doors Grant provides financial support to homeowners upgrading to modern energy-efficient windows and external doors. Introduced in 2026, the scheme allows these upgrades to be carried out without requiring a full deep retrofit, making energy improvements more accessible for many Irish homes.
The grant forms part of Ireland's wider strategy to improve residential energy performance and reduce heat loss in older homes.
Homeowners can receive up to €5,600 depending on property type and the number of doors replaced.

Maximum of two doors covered under the scheme.
Example: A detached home replacing all eligible windows and two external doors could receive up to €5,600 in total grant funding.

Who Is Eligible for the Grant?
Property Requirements
- Home must be built and occupied before 2011
- Applicant must be the property owner
- Property must have a valid MPRN (electricity meter number)
- Attic and wall insulation must be rated Good or Very Good in the BER
Replacement Criteria
- Existing inefficient windows and doors must be replaced
- New products must meet SEAI performance standards
- Typical U-value requirement is 1.4 W/m²K or better
Energy Performance After Works
After installation the home must achieve:
- Heat Loss Indicator (HLI) of 2.3 W/m²K or better
- OR BER advisory rating showing Good or Very Good insulation levels
How the Grant Process Works
Contact an SEAI Registered Installer
Homeowners should first contact an SEAI-registered installer such as ClearLine Windows & Doors to receive advice, product recommendations and a quotation.
Review Energy Performance
Check that your home meets SEAI requirements. A BER assessor may review insulation levels and confirm that replacing windows and doors will meet the required energy performance targets.
Apply for the Grant
Once you have your quotation and contractor details, submit your application to SEAI. Work must not begin before grant approval is issued.
Installation
Once approved, the SEAI-registered installer completes the work according to scheme standards.
Post-Works BER Assessment
A BER assessor confirms the improved energy performance of the property.
Grant Payment
Once documentation is approved, the grant payment is issued directly to the homeowner.
Important Things to Know
- The grant can only be claimed once for windows
- Maximum of two external doors covered
- Work cannot begin before approval
- Windows or doors in extensions built after 2011 are not eligible
- Some homes may require insulation upgrades before qualifying
